If a person put an addition on their home, and can't pay for it. Can the company take their home?

Roundabout, yes. The construction company liens the home, interest accrues, and eventually one of 2 things happens (usually): you sell the home and some of the payoff has to clear the lien, or if 2 years roll by and you haven't paid they sue you and if they win they can force a sale of the home. Now the issue is, is the home worth more than the current loans on it plus the amount of the lien? If the construction company figures out there is a mortgage lender ahead of it, it may not want to sue on the lien. Can't say; not enough facts and can't put myself into the construction company's head to decide, but .... it is possible.
