Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Illinois

previous owners responsible

If i want to build something on my deck and was told during inspection that the deck built by the previous owners had never gotten a permit for the work, who would be responsible? If something needs to be changed on deck (wasnt done to code) wouldnt previous owners be responsible for all repairs?

Re: previous owners responsible

Once you buy the property you are generally liable. Unless the previous owner lied to you. In that case you may be able to sue him for fraud.

please email me if you have any quesitons.
