Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Illinois

A privacy fence was included with my friends apartment... Several months into the lease term, The rental management company discovered that the fence was legally too high and took half the fence down now people can see into the apartment. The fence was my friends whole reason for renting in this community but the management company won't give him a credit or anything. What are his options?

Unless the lease says the height of the fence was a material reason why your friend rented the apartment and that without it he could terminate, the likelihood of being able to do anything about this is nil. Anyhow, when you say 'rental management company' if this is a condo the relationship is between your friend and the condo owner, and so he should be talking to the landlord. If the 'rental management company' is the owner, however, then he's at least dealing with the right party.
