real estate buyer atty sent a contract termination letter 7 business days before contract end. I fell I should get earnest money.

Someone will have to review the contract, what happened, and the letter. If you are the buyer and you did NOT default you should get your earnest money back. If you are in default, your earnest money could be in jeopardy.

More information is needed. You do not say if you are the buyer or seller, you do not say why the termination letter was sent, and the terms of the purchase agreement would need to be reviewed.
