How does someone find out who the lean holder of a property is (side note: the house is in trust)?

You need to do a title search on the property. It will show all liens and other encroachments on the property. There are a number of ways to do this, even online. Also, you can get the property i.d. number (the "PIN") and run a search through the recorder of deeds in your county.
