I RECEIVED A NOTICE OF MOTION IN THE MAIL ON THURSDAY MAY 10 FOR A COURT DATE ON MAY 15. i COULD NOT GET OFF OF WORK TO ATTEND, HOW MUCH MANY DAYS NOTICE ARE SUPPOSED TO BE GIVEN

Depending on the kind of motion (non-emergency, routine, etc.) this may be adequate but you should have called on receipt to advise you might have a conflict and to see if a mutually convenient date could be arranged.
