Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Illinois

Can I refuse to sell my home to a particular person

If I put my home up for sale, can I refuse to sell it to a particular person or family even if they are the high bidder? Can I decide to sell it to the low bidder just because I like them better? This decision would not be because of race, ethnicity, etc., but just because I don't like (hate would be the better word), the neighbor who might bid on my house if I put it up for sale. Can I refuse to sell it to this person or family even if they are the ONLY bidder?

No one can make you sell their house to them. You have the perfect right to sell or not sell to anyone of your choosing, provided of course, your motivation is not based upon certain criteria, such as race, gender or possibly gender preference. While not questioning your issues with your neighbor, it would seem to me that if he/she is the highest bidder, wouldn't the best way to satisfy your dislike be by selling the house to the neighbor at a price above the market?
