Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Illinois

Security Deposit Return

When we rented our security deposit was $1750. After 2 years we moved out with proper written notice including giving our new address. 30 days after moving to our new place I left a message with the landlady asking where our return deposit was. The letter was postmarked 45 days after the final day of our lease. She deducted $400 for unspecified fines, as well as not including any interest for the 2 years. I called and she never returned my messages asking why to both. I left that place immaculate. What am I entitled to?

Re: Security Deposit Return

You may want to hire an attorney to send the former landlord a demand payment letter. What the agreed amount of interest on your deposit? Do you have a copy of the lease? You may be entitled to the full $1750 plus interest, but you would have to pay an attorney to begin the process, and so would have less that the $400 plus interst even if you would recover anything. This messagae is not legal advice because you are not as yet my client.
