Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Illinois

I have a signed contract for two months now and they where taking the fridge and stove but leaving the washer dryer. The washer dryer where included on the signed contract, but i was worried that the previous owners might take the washer/dryer when moving out being it was a short sale, so i had my real estate agent just confirm that they where leaving the washer/dryer. Well the selling agent said no they are taking the washer/dryer it wasnt on the contract for it to go with the house and then whited out where it was on the contract and sent it over, even though we all have copies of the orignal contract with it on there. Isnt that illegal? thats a legal document that they tried to illegaly to change? what can i do? this is in illinois.

Contact your attorney who is there to protect your interests in this closing and have him or her address it. If the documents are as clear as it appears from your post, you are correct that the washer and dryer should now remain. If the sellers have an issue, it may be with their attorney or agent (although arguably they should have caught something that straightforward). If you are not using an attorney, you can only hope that you get clear title and a short sale closing without issues.

Also, any broker that attempts to modify a fully executed contract may be disciplined. Have your broker bring it to the attention of the seller's broker's managing broker (head of that office). If your broker won't you can try. PS additional reason to get an attorney: I've heard of short sales where when title comes down there are things that can significantly affect the deal if you don't know what you're doing.
