do i need some sort of contract if i hire someone to watch my house when i am on vacation?

I would suggest that you require bonding and insurance for this house-watcher. Most people do not have a contract although they should, even if something bad rarely happens. Do you want peace of mind while you are gone? Do you need an attorney?

You do not need a written contract but it would be a good idea to have one.
