Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Illinois

stop wage garnishment

I am a 51 year old male and I have a question about how can I be sold a 2flat in 1999 with 25 building code violations when the previous owner was issued the 25 violations and were not diclosed at the time of closing? And now the City of Chicago is holding me responsible and is trying to garnish my wages. I have not owned the building for over 6 years. I was foreclosed on in 2001 and was forced to move into a mobile home. If there is anyone who could help I would like to go after the realtor and closing attorney who refused to help fix the problem. I lost over $14,000.00 in that deal that I withdrew from my retirement fund. I am a forklift driver in a warehouse and don't make a lot of money. If there is anyone that could help or point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciated.

Assuming you have all the documents from the closing, you could call me to speak about this problem.

Your likely source to chase would be the prior owner - but it all depends on the disclosures made during the deal and what language was used - you would need an attorney to review all the documents to tell you what you could do for sure. And there are time limitations that you must keep in mind.

Re: stop wage garnishment

You need to obtaqin copies of all documents related to your transaction, including all represnetations, disclosures, cloisiung papers and contracts. You also should obtain copies fo the building code violations from before your purchase. Once you have all of those papers, you should consult with an attorney to determine if there is a cause of action.
