Tenant's Dog & My responsibility

If my tenant's dog bites someone (or harms another person in any way), am I legally responsible for damages? Do my tenants bear the responsibility for any and all legal issues relating to the attack of their dog?

OK, here is what I think in a world of expanding responsibility for the actions of others that can be made yours: If you know that the dog has a problem, someone is going to allege that you allowed a dangerous condition to exist. Bang, liability. In other words, the first bite is free, after that, you might have to pay.
