Tenant's liabitliy for apartment fire

I recently had a fire in my apartment. I don't know how it started, I woke up and seen my bedroom on fire. The inspector for my landlord's insurance company said it was accidental and from a cigarette. I did not smoke in the apartment that day. I was out all day and went to bed 5 hours before i was awoken by the fire. Can I be held liable? Everything in my unit is gone and all other tenants are without a home. I didn't have renter's insurance either. Please help!!

Greetings -

First of all, don't make anymore statements to

your landlord's insurance company, or anyone

else for that matter. You need representation.

If a lawsuit is filed against you, you will have

to defend against it. I will be happy to answer

any more questions that you have. Certainly,

you need to get a lawyer.
