Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Illinois

I'm thinking about getting a couple of chickens or ducks next spring for my children and I to have as pets. Our Village has an "Animals Prohibitied From Village" ordinance that states "no person shall keep", then basically lists everything but dogs and cats (including chickens and ducks). Then it says "except such as may be customarily used as a pet". Since we want them as pets (not for any type of agricultural or or commercial use), wouldn't we be OK keeping them? Thanks

Why don't you ask the Village first? I remember when I was a kid around Easter our elementary school gave each of us a choice of a duckling or chick. But that was 1958. And the cute litte fuzzy yellow chick I got grew into an ugly, noisy, dirty, filthy chicken - we wound up giving it to an egg farm by summer.
