Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Illinois
We vacated commerical property on November 1, 2011. Our landlord has given us no formal accounting of any damages and has not returned out sercutiry deposit to date. What can we do. We are a non for profit in the stat of Illinois

You are not covered by any Illinois statute regarding refund of security deposits. Those statutes are related only to certain residential properties. Your rights are governed solely by your lease. If your lease says you are entitled to a refund it should say when. It may not be specific. If it is supposed to be "prompt" that usually is taken to be 30 days or so, but could be longer depending on various factors. You should have an attorney review the lease provision.
