Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Illinois
Im worried for my sister. She has owned her townhouse in Alsip for 15 years. Now a divorced man who has become her boyfriend has moved in and living there for over 1 year. His adult son needed a place to stay and has just moved in. Without getting married can my sisters boyfriend ever attach himself to rights to her home in the future? I heard of a couple getting married and then the new wife was entitled to some of the equity when the marriage failed. How does this work? I dont trust this man.

Generally no but at the very least he has gained rights not to be evicted without due process, same with his son. But only your sister can deal with this and she might sign something that could change the situation.
