Legal Question in Sexual Harassment in Illinois

Hi,

I was sexually molested for 5 years as a child between the ages of 11/12 to 15/16. At that time I was an indian citizen + greencard holder and the abuser was an indian citizen. The sexual abuse happened both in India and US.

At the age of 18, I became an american citizen and now that I'm 26, the abuser has a greencard and is on the way for citizenship.

I also just moved to India temporarily and the previous state I was in was NYC and I saw a therapist in Illinois.

I would like to press charges/report him in USA. Can I still do this? Would this case be considered in USA?

Hello. Yes, in my opinion, you can still press charges against this individual. Since the crime took place in the U.S., the particular State where the crime took place has jurisdiction. Assuming Illinois is that State, the prosecutor of that county in Illinois should be notified and requested to bring formal charges against the offender. The FBI also might be interested in bringing the offender back to the U.S. to prosecute him or her.
