Filing taxes for IL and VA
Hi,
My wife was stationed in the military in TX, but has kept VA as her state, so VA has taken out taxes for 7 months of 2006 military pay.
At the end of 7 months, we moved to IL, where she was collecting unemployment, and the state of IL was taking out taxes from that pay.
Can she file in both states, and only for the pay that has been collected by the appropriate states?
Thank you.

Yes. She should file as a part-year resident in both states. The states' forms will pro-rate her income according to where it was earned.
