Legal Question in Traffic Law in Illinois
Accident in Illinois
I caused an accident a year ago in Illinois. I was driving on a FLorida license and I didn't have property damage coverage for the victims car. In Florida we have no fault coverage. I was told by serveral that I will not be able to get an Illinois Drivers license until I pay the damages of the the victims car. Since the accident I have been driving in illinois on my Florida license and it expires in 6 months. Do I have to pay for the damages before I can get an Illinois drivers license ? I have made payments to the victims insurance company but I am no where near paying off the entire amount. Any information you can give will be of great help !!

Re: Accident in Illinois
Wait a minute. Why are you paying out of your own pocket for the other guy's damages? If you don't have a need for coverage of this sort due to FL law, is your insurance company saying that their insurance is no good if you drive to another state? Something here doesn't sound correct. Take your policy and have an office consultation with an attorney.
