Attended a safe driving class for a ticket...does that still count as a convicti

About six months ago, I attended a safe driving class for a ticket for an illegal lane change. Just recently I received a ticket for speeding. My question is, does my prior ticket count as a conviction even though it was taken off my record because I attended a safe driving class? I want to know if I should go to court, or if I can mail in my guilty plea, ask for court supervision, and pay the fine, without repercussions such as losing my license.

Generally speaking, if you were given court supervision and ordered to attend the school as part of the supervision, then the prior ticket should not count toward a possible suspension. However, not seeing the court order regarding the driving school, I cannot say for sure the disposition of that case. I would recommend for the current case that you retain counsel and go to court. I know of too many instances where people mailed in the ticket, expecting supervision and wound up with a surprise suspension. Mailing in the ticket may also result in the revocation of the supervision you believed you received on the first case. You should speak with counsel. If you wish to call our office, the number is 630-257-8280. Good luck.
