Legal Question in Traffic Law in Illinois
car accident in snow
I was driving at a speed of about 25 mph, on President Street. I was under speed because there was snow on the road and was slippery. I figured there was sth wrong upfront; I could see a police car and some others clustered. So, I left my gas pedal, and switched to the brakes. The car in front didnt have any brake lights on and it seemed it was not moving. I applied the brakes from a distance so the car would stop when I get closer. Then, I heard sound from my tires kadh, kadh, kadh and I saw a Low traction sign on my speedometer window. I tried my best, but the car just slid freely on ice and hit the bumper of the car. I couldnt turn left because it was a two-way road, intersection, and I would have collided with the car already parked on the other side. I couldnt get down on the curb because there was no space or parking lot where I could turn my car to prevent hitting. The officer, who was already there because of some other incident, asked us to move to the left street inside- intersection. He gave me a ticket and marked Failure to reduce speed/accident. Road conditions- wet and snow- no court appearance required. I havent had any ticket or violation in the past 15 months Ive had my license. I think I am not guilty
