Legal Question in Traffic Law in Illinois

city cop proticol

I was inside a store, cop sees my vehicle parked outside and waits for me to exit the store, as soon as I do they arrest e on a body attachment for an unpaid traffic ticket. Did they have the right to search my vehicle and have it imounded? I was not in it, and it was parked on private property.

Impounded yes, they can tow the vehicle because of unpaid parking tickets.

Search? I would be curious to hear their justification for the search and also to know the extent of how far they checked. Did you consent to their checking the car?
