Legal Question in Traffic Law in Illinois

I got in a crash and was given a ticket "failure to yield at an intersection." No court appearance was required but the officer told me to plead not guilty and go into court so the ticket will be dismissed because the person I got in a crash was understanding and knew this was an honest mistake and had no intent to come to court to press the charges. I missed the court date so had to file a motion to reschedule it. I went in to reschedule it and pleaded not guilty in court so the judge rescheduled for a trial in about a month. Did I get myself in a huge mess or is this what is suppose to happen?

If the complaining witness shows up, you should be ready for trial. This is the correct mechanism; too bad you missed the first date, you might have been able to resolve the matter then. You should consider, seriously, hiring a lawyer. This process could be too difficult for you to understand.
