Legal Question in Traffic Law in Illinois

never drive again?

state of illinois.

3/14/98 speeding 29+ over limit

3/28/99 speeding 26-29 over limit

07/17/99 date of revocation

07/17/00 date of eligibility to reapply for full reinstatement

08/15/00 21st birthday

why was my license revoked? (when so many arent for so many greater sins) i want actual statutes.

why was my restricted driving permit denied 3 times?

why, when i went to the dmv to apply for reinstatement in 8/00 did they tell me to wait a year?

(thus making the revocation for 2 years instead of the original 1)

i may have more questions, but this is a start.

thanks

Re: never drive again?

You may be able to drive again, but Illinois provides for license suspension of those under 21 with 2 convictions for moving violations within a 12 month period. The key word here is "conviction". It may be possible to re-instate your license by bringing up your old tickets in court and asking the judge to provide you with court supervision. Some judges will do this, particularly if you were convicted simply because you pled guilty by mail. There are potentially other things that can be done, but that requires a thorough review of your driving history by an experienced traffic attorney.

Re: never drive again?

Hello and thank you for your

question. In Illinois driving

is a privilege and not a

right. Therefore, the Secretary of State has the

power to suspend your license

for certain violations. Generally, you can drive if

you have two moving violations, however the law

allows for a suspension with

three moving violations within

I believe 6 months. However,

there have been some rather

strict changes in the law.

You should get a copy of your

driving abstract (record) to

see what shows up. Good

luck!! And get a lawyer to

clear this up. It is risky

to resolve this by yourself!!
