Legal Question in Traffic Law in Illinois

Driving while suspended

I was involved in a single-car accident (mine) on 2/6/07. The highway was very slippery and was only going 30mph, didn't do much damage to the vehicle... so I just went home. The next morning I went to the Morton police dept. to fill out an accident report for insurance purposes. Shortly after arriving I was arrested for driving on a suspended license (suspended on 1/15/07).. DEFINITELY DID NOT KNOW ABOUT THAT! The reason I did not know was because I only updated the address on my car's registration and it didn't even dawn on me that I also had to update my DL's address... so I never got the notice of suspension. The suspension was for 2 speeding tickets w/in 24-months (I am 20). Would it be best to hire professional help? What are the chances of going to jail? What are the chances of the DWLS being dropped? HELP I'M SCARED!

Re: Driving while suspended

Try to be calm. This type of thing happens all of the time. Yes, you should hire an attorney to represent you. If it is possible to take care of any previous tickets then that should be done. If you already have convictions that can not be set aside, then you need to find out when you are eligible to get your license reinstated and exactly what you need to do. Then,do it. Your pending case can probably be continued to give you some time to accomplish this task, and then a plea bargain might be arranged in order for you to avoid a conviction for driving while suspended. A local attorney can certainly help you.
