Legal Question in Traffic Law in Illinois

Driving on Suspended License

I used to live in Michigan. My license there was suspened for not payment of tickets. Since on of the tickets was driving on a suspended license they suspended them for a month. I was recently stopped and cited In IL (Clinton County) for driving on suspended License. I am not eligble for reinstatement of MI till June 4th. My court date in IL is June 3rd. I was told to get my IL license and chances were I could be granted supervision. But since my date is before my suspension is over I cant get my license reinstated. Any suggestions?

Thank You

Brian

Re: Driving on Suspended License

Brian,

I might have already spoken to you. Since your court date comes before your reinstatement date it appears that you need to "continue" or postpone the court date. You may appear in court yourself at your first court date and ask the judge for a continuance. He does not need to know all of the details. You can tell him if he asks that you need about thirty days to hire an attorney. The judge will continue your case for about thirty days. Or, rather than do this yourself, you can hire an attorney who will do it for you and possibly even save you the trip to court. Hope that this helps. Good luck! (My number is 314-727-2822.)
