Legal Question in Traffic Law in Illinois
Expired Tag
I live in NC but temporarily working in IL. We will be going home for Christmas and driving our truck which has an expired tag. We found out we can get our daughter to pick up the tag at home, but she may not have time to get it to us before we leave. What would happen if we get stopped by the police? The tag would be renewed but we would not have the renewal sticker on the truck. ( We also have a car that is up to date but won't hold all the presents.)

Re: Expired Tag
Why couldn't your daughter overnight the new tag to you by UPS or FedEx or whatever? If it really is impossible and you drive the truck with an expired tag, you may be pulled over and given a ticket, or perhaps even multiple tickets if you are pulled over in more than one Illinois county. These tickets can be handled relatively easily by proving that you have a valid tag for the truck, but the whole process will cost you money whether you hire an attorney or not.
