Legal Question in Traffic Law in Illinois

What is the best way to fight a ticket for improper turn? The police officer is wrote me a citation for an improper turn late late at night. I believed that there were 2 left turning lanes, when only the furthest left one was actually a turn lane. Before I entered the intersection, I turned my turn signal on and changed lanes into the turning lane. Then I proceeded with my left turn in the proper lane. The officer stated that because I did not enter the turning late at the beginning of the turn lane, I wasn't entitled to turn left. Is this even correct? I have plead not guilty and I am planning on fighting the ticket without a lawyer, but I'm not sure the best way to go about this. Isn't it just my word against his at this point?

The officers word is almost always is viewed by the court as unbiased. The reasoning is that the officer does not know you and is just doing their job. The Defendant however has every reason to contest the officers observations so as to not have to pay a fine, have auto ins. premiums increased etc.

If you have a witness, that may help your case.
