Legal Question in Traffic Law in Illinois

I hit a pedestrian and have no insurance

Hello I'm 19 years old. I hit a pesdestrian last wednesday. I was making a left hand turn. It was raining and I did not see her until she was in front of my car. I also had the green light. The car belongs to a friend and at the time was uninsured. She was taken to the hospital. Her attorney is calling me. I believe she is going to file a lawsuit. What's the worst that can happen? I am a full time student and I have nothing in the bank. Can she sue my parents? Do I need a lawyer for my first court appearance?

You are what they call a judgment poof defendant. It not worth suing you. However, they can suspend your license until such time as the judgment is paid.

They may be able to sue your friend as well.

I don't think they can sue your mom.

You need a lawyer, or you need to tell the judge that you need another date to retain a lawyer. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD YOU PLEAD GUILTY. That said, you might have to file a personal bankruptcy to extract yourself from this mess. From what you relate, I can't tell if your parents are on the hook. Good Luck!
