Legal Question in Traffic Law in Illinois

June 17, 2009 Court Date

My son was arrested for DUI in December 2007. He hired an attorney & was subsequently convicted of wreckless driving. He went through the counselling, paid his fine and since he moved from Chicago to Metamora after his arrest, he was told he could go to the Red Cross in Peoria for the Victim Impact Panel and then fax his attendance verfication to the Lake County Compliance Officer. He faxed the verfication before the June 17, 2008 deadline, but apparently the attendance verification form was not entered into his official record. There was a court date he didn't know about & missed in January 2009 because of this missing paperwork and so he was arrested on May 26, 2009 on a warrant and posted $2020.00 bond. He called the Lake County Circuit Clerk that afternoon and asked why there was a warrant and was advised that it was because of the missing paperwork and his failure to appear in court in January. We then sent a letter to the Lake County State's Attorney, attaching the attendance verification, asking that the case be dismissed. He's been told that he needs to be in court & better bring a lawyer. We don't know if there is more they need & they won't tell us. Please help

You need a lawyer because your son is facing jail time. Since this is a sentence violation, your son has to appear in court. Please call me immediately for further discussion.
