Legal Question in Traffic Law in Illinois
Jurisdiction - Speeding Ticket vs. Crash
Friday night, I hit a deer in my truck. I hit the deer inside of what I thought was city limits. At least, what was city limits according to an city police officer that imformed me of them, when he gave me a speeding ticket last year. The city police tell me Friday, that it is out of thier jurisdiction, where I hit the deer, and it is in Illinois State Police's. Now, when I got the ticket for speeding, I was on the outside of town, accoring to a sign that said Highland City Limits. But I got the ticket anyway, after the oficer told me where the limits were. Then I got chewed out for asking him why the sign hadn't been moved. Just wondering if they were actually outside jurisdiction, or just lazy. Also, was it right for me to get the ticket, based on the sign location?

Re: Jurisdiction - Speeding Ticket vs. Crash
On what basis were you given a speeding ticket? Radar? Following police car? The more interesting question presented is whether you reported killing the deer to the Illinois Department of Conservation. You might be visited by a Conservation Police Officer soon. Might I suggest that you need legal representation?
