Legal Question in Traffic Law in Illinois
Do I need a lawyer for this type of citation?
I was involved in a car accident and I received a citation saying that "Failure to reduce speed". I rear-ended someone else car because I did not have enough time to stop. I will need to appear to a circuit for this citation and do I need a lawyer for the court appearance? Thanks.

It is obvious to me from the way your question is drafted that you had BETTER have a lawyer represent you. A plea of guilty can really screw up the civil case which is sure to come.

It is worthwhile to have a lawyer for this type of citation, because the manner in which the case is handled can have an effect outside the courtroom. While there can be attractive offers (such as supervision, no fine) that may make disposition look simple, pleas of guilty can be used in civil suits for determining liability. You would be best advised to have counsel for your appearance. Traffic is among the areas we cover, and we can be contacted at 630-243-0099.
