Legal Question in Traffic Law in Illinois

Options after receiving license suspension notice

My son received a speeding ticket 5/8/99, and another one on 3/30/01. My understanding of the law was the two ticket in 24 months applied until you were 18. He was almost 19 when he received the second ticket. The second ticket was in Iowa, where he attends college. We told him to check if a driver's class was available in Iowa. They apparently do not have the program, so we told him to just pay the ticket. It was our belief it was his ''first'' offense, since he was now 18. He received a suspension notice yesterday, and my question is what can we do? He is in a position where he really needs his license to drive to school, baseball(which he plays in college), and work. Alcohol has never been a factor. He is a dedicated athlete, and doesn't drink or use drugs.

Re: Options after receiving license suspension notice

You'll have to hire an Iowa attorney to see if it is possible to vacate the guilty plea the entered when you had your son pay the Iowa speeder. When you accomplish that, you will have to send a certified copy of the vacatur to the Illinois Secretary of State. Good luck.
