Legal Question in Traffic Law in Illinois
I rear-ended a guy in Illinois. He was visiting from Texas and won't be back. The cop told me if I take the ticket to court and the guy I hit doesn't show, the charges will automatically be dropped. This sounds great, but how do I know the cop won't show up to court and speak against me? I'm sure the judge would side with the cop, right?

Was the cop there when you rear-ended him? If not, he has no "personal knowledge" of the ticket and none of his testimony is admissible.
I would be more worried about the other guy's insurer.
