Legal Question in Traffic Law in Illinois

I recently recived a speeding ticket. I'm 21 years old. I just got my licences and I was having a friend work my cruise controll because it was my first time on a highway. I ended up going 90 in a 65. In Illinoise. I didnt end up seeing the judge, I saw an attorney at my court date ,he said that the ticket will be on my record forever. Is this true? I was wondering because I've heard that in Illinoise it only stays on 5 years . Im not talking about points counting, I know thats only a year but I was wondering if this will ever come off?

Here's a Q&A directly from the Illinois Secretary of State's website (www.cyberdriveillinois.com) that should be helpful.

Q: I received a traffic ticket last year. How long will it stay on my driving record?

A: Moving violations such as speeding, disregarding a traffic control light, improper lane usage, etc. remain on a driver's record for four to five years from the date of conviction. If the ticket forms the basis for a suspension or revocation, the information will be carried on your driving record for a minimum of seven years from the date of reinstatement. Alcohol/drug offenses remain on a driver's record for a lifetime.

---Then again the attorney may have been referring to insurance records -- insurance companies may keep information longer (and you're supposed to let them know if they ask otherwise they may be able to deny coverage later -- it's a no-win situation).
