You can, and apparently have been, charged with a traffice law violation. On that charge you should hire an attorney to avoid taking a conviction. And, yes, you can be sued in civil court if you caused property damage or personal injury. Your insurance company or your employer's insuror should provide a defense attorney for you if this occurs.
