Legal Question in Traffic Law in Illinois

reckless driving - 95 in a 45 zone

I was tagged for reckless on my motorcycle driving near the end of an express way (Elgin Ohare for you Chicagoans) going 95 in a 45 zone. I read that I can be fined up to $2500 and a year in jail. I have not received a moving violation in years and was wondering what is the normal penalty given to someone who has a good record. If convicted is this going to be on my criminal record as well as my driving record? I am VERY worried and any information is greatly appreciated!

I am definitely getting an attorney to represent me in this matter.

At a minimum, you are probably looking at supervision on your driving record. Your worst case scenario is probably supervision plus a fine in the 100's. Call me if you have any questions, but don't loose any sleep over this...

When one travels more than 40 MPH over the posted speed it is a Class A misdemeanor. That is not necessarily reckless driving which takes three distince violations and must be charged on a form different than a uniform traffic ticket. The penalties can be up to a year in jail and fines of up to $2500. It is important to handle this matter carefully as it can have an impact on your driving privileges and insurance rates.
