Scott's Law - administrative mistake?

In November 2008, I was pulled over in Geneseo, IL on I80 for not changing lane when a police car was in the emergency lane, lights on, by itself. I wasn't comfortable changing lane, but I did slow down significantly. The officer took my license away an gave me a court date for January 14, 2009. One the said date, I drove from Chicago where I live and I went to court, the judge gave me a $100 fine, and gave me my license back. On January 28 I received a letter from the Secretary of State saying that my license is suspended from 02/02/09 to 05/02/10. I called and they say there was a mistake and it is only suspended till 05/02/09. I followed their suggestion and went to the DMV to asked for a permit to drive to work, and they say they can't do anything. The Illinois Vehicle Code says you license can be suspended if you damage someone's property (11-907) but I didn't and it's my first moving violation. What can I do?

You obviously had no attorney representation and plead guilty. You should hire a local attorney, have them vacate the guilty plea, and get court supervision. Good Luck.
