Legal Question in Traffic Law in Illinois
Suspended drivers licence
During the year 2002 I leased a 2002 Chevy Malibu I was going thru some problems and lost my job therefore I decided to past the vehical over to a friend to continue making payments. No legal forms were created. She was paying the vehical good for almost 2 yrs than she stoppod making payments and the car got reposed. Well recently I''ve received a letter that the car was involved in a accident in 2004 and she had no insurance so i need to send in a payment or my drivers license will be suspended, but i was not involved in the accident. They have her drivers licence number. so basically i just need to know what i have to do so my drivers licence will not get suspended. Any help you can provide for me will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

Re: Suspended drivers licence
I would have to conduct some legal research in order to be able to tell you exactly what needs to be done. It may be that you are still responsible for the damage caused in the accident since you still legally owned the car at that time. If there was no insurance in effect, the secretary of state's office may be within the law in suspending your license unless you enter into an agreement and pay the damages. On the other hand you may have a defense. I would suggest that you contact a local attorney int he area in which you live to obtain expert advise. Good luck.
