Legal Question in Traffic Law in Illinois
Transportation of Alcohol ticket, first time, do I need a lawyer?
I was recently in a car of a few passengers that got pulled over for a minor issue, like a licence plate light being out. By the end of the altercation, the officer had searched our car and found some alcohol. Thus, Myself and the other passengers all received Transportation of Alcohol tickets. It is the first time for me, plus I was not the driver and I am over 21. I was wondering if I could get the ticket removed from my record or get on supervision without hiring a lawyer? If so, HOW?

Re: Transportation of Alcohol ticket, first time, do I need a lawyer?
The answers to your questions depend upon the jurisdiction in which you are charged. In some courts, the State's Attorney or prosecutor will talk to you and make a plea bargain agreement with you which the Judge will then approve allowing you supervision for a period of time and perhaps imposing other requirements. In other places, these matters may only be worked out with the assistance of legal counsel. My suggestion would be to hire an attorney if you are able , and if not , try to talk to the States attorney or prosecutor at your first court date.
