Legal Question in Traffic Law in Illinois
I was traveling north on I-57 in a pickup truck pulling a trailer with TN tags and markings and was pulled over by a Mounds City, Illinois police officer. The city limits of Mounds does not reach I-57. He questioned the total weight of the truck, trailer, and contents and required me to follow him several miles to a weigh scale in the City of Mounds. The scales indicated that I was over the weight limit on my Tennessee tags and he issue a $561 fine. Can a Mounds City Police officer stop me outside of the city limits when I never entered the city?

If the officer had jurisdiction over that portion of I-57 (and it may be concurrent with the Illinois State Police) when he spotted you he did have the right to pull you over within a reasonable distance beyond his jurisdiction. So without a lot more info, the answer can only be "possibly".
