Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Illinois

back child support

Multiple questions, but it's an odd set of circumstances. my father did not pay child support for over 95% of my life from age 0-18. We tried going through the child support office, they claimed to not be able to find him even though he resided in the state and he actually visited me on my 16th birthday. Ten years later, my mother recieved a letter from someone on my father's family side saying that he had died FOUR YEARS EARLIER. we have documentation of everything we sent and recieved from DCFS, the question(s): Can anything be done to get the back child support now? And I was his first born, yet I recieved nothing from his death. May sound callous, but i didn't know the man, and he skipped out on child support plus, apparently, left me nothing. What can be done about finding out what kind of estate he had upon his death and what I am entitled to?

Re: back child support

Check with the probate court in the last county where he resided to see if his estate was probated. You may have had a claim against his estate, but you may be time-barred now because it has been four years. Depends on whether an estate was opened, what assets he had and state law. Good luck.
