Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Illinois

closing a case

My husbands mother died in97 and her husband died in 2002

The case was filed in 2002

we received a letter in 2006 stating we have to sign a receipt before we can get our money

But they said that people can still contest the will

How long does one have to contest the will after the case was filed in 2002

Re: closing a case

At this stage, it would likely not be the ability to contest the will, but a right to challenge the final accounting prior to the closing of the estate.

If you are not sure of what you are being asked to sign, contact the attorney for the estate and ask him to it to you. If the answer is not satisfactory, you may want to consult an attorney of your own to protect your interests.

Good luck to you.
