Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Illinois
Closing of estate
My father passed away August of 2003 and my lawyer has not closed the case yet. Is there a time frame for closing out estates? The lawyer was my father's and I'm not sure if he's a good lawyer??
Thanks for your time.

Re: Closing of estate
Without more specific information, it is not possible to give you more than a very general answer.
Some estates have numerous and/or difficult issues that must be resolved prior to the closing. E.g., if there are contests over property, challenges by beneficiaries, title to property, whether there was an estate tax audit by the IRS, etc.
As an heir or a beneficiary, you have the right to have your questions answered in a timely fashion by the attorney for the estate.
Good luck to you.
