Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Illinois

no communication in 18 months about estate

My father died. Three years later mom died. She obtained ownership of the house

from dad's trust. It is still in her trust after 18 months. I did a Cook County Tax Search. My hostile 61 year old sister

has not contacted me about anything. The house taxes are paid. The phone bill is paid. The house is maintained. The house is empty. What can I do to run down if there is anything coming to me? I can't find a searchable data base of legal/public notices. There is no sense in getting an attorney if there is nothing in the estate for me. All indications at the present are that she is just sitting on estate. She had power of attorney.

Re: no communication in 18 months about estate

Do you know if, or have reason to believe that, you were disinherited? Trusts are generally not part of any public record. It is a private document that is/should be executed by the designated trustee. You may have ceratin rights and benefits under the trust, but without seeing the actual document it is impossble to know for sure. If you think your sister will not contact you, you either need to contact her yourself or hire an attorney to get information from her and determine your interest and rights, and what actions might be appropriate. Feel free to call me at (847) 991-2250 to discuss.
