Counselor's Help In Getting An Inheritance

I first met this counselor(not a lawyer)in 1988. He helped me with concerns that had me distressed. In April 2004, this same counselor demanded that I give him 50% of everything that I had coming to me now and in the future, or else. At that time, the counselor gave me advice on an inheritance that I had trouble getting. I had a statement notarized which gave the counselor half of everything. The bills owed my lawyer, would have to be paid first. Then I would give the counselor half of what I had obtained from this inheritance. The counselor wanted to be given 50% of EVERYTHING that I would get in the future. I refused to do that. After that, I had less and less contact with the counselor. Today, April 6, 2005, at 5 a.m, I received an urgent phone call from the counselor. He wanted 50% of everything that I received BEFORE the date of the notarized statement. Will I have a problem with this?

I can't see how you're going to have a problem, but I can't tell you you won't have to hire an attorney to assist you. On the other hand, your "counselor" might be having some problems in the very near future.

It's not clear from your question, but if this "counselor" was giving legal advice, he was practicing law without a license, and should be reported to the bar.

Do not pay give this person one penny. It appears from your question that there may have been threats by this person to you.

If this person believes he has a legal right to be paid then let him or her file suit against you and let a judge decide the matter---however based on the limited information you provided I see no legal basis for a suit against you.

My advice to you is to speak with an attorney ASAP and do not speak with this "counselor" anymore.
