Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Illinois

Disbursement of funds named to me in will

I have been included in my aunt's will for the amount of $20,000.00. I have been told by the executor and other family members that they need to wait 6 mos. before disbursing the money since they need to liquidate and close out all of her other accounts. These were the instructions as per my deceased aunt's lawyer. Just for my own curiosity, is this true, and is there a chance that it can be delayed longer, or that I may not receive at all?

Since I have never been in this position before, I just want to be sure where I stand from a legal standpoint.

Thank you very much for your assistance.
