Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Illinois

estates and stuff

my father recently died, I was wondering if I am responsible for any of his debt, credit cards, hospital bills, utility bills, etc? He didnt have many assets I mean enough to cover his burial and such. I was wondering can the debtors go after the life insurance policy he left me?

Re: estates and stuff

Your father's debt is not your debt, unless you personally guaranteed it (by signing something, or having a joint credit card account, etc.)

Similarly, your life insurance policy is not attachable by creditors.

Good luck to you.
