Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Illinois

father died, mother dementia

My father has just passed away.

Everything has been left to my mom. She has dementia. How can I attain guardianship for her accounts? My mom doesn't speak or understand English very well.

I have small children who

my father adored. I want to provide my mom with the proper care and perhaps establish college

funds for the grandchildren. There

are no other living relatives that would want any of the estate.

I want to do right by my mom. Please advise the most compassionate alternative... I'm sure that's what my father would want. Thank you.

Re: father died, mother dementia

If there are no powers of attorney in place at this point, you indeed likely need to petition a court for guardianship. This would allow you as guardian to manage your mother's personal and financial affairs.
