Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Illinois

My grandmother passed away recently. My Aunt is the executor of her will. I have not spoken with my grandma in 8 months and my aunt for over a year. I know at one point I was in my grandma’s will. If I am still in her will, does my aunt have to contact me about the items left for me in the will or can she say that I am no longer in it since I didn’t speak with my grandmother before her death? I do know who my grandmother’s lawyer was. Can I contact him for a private reading of her will?

I am sorry for your loss. Your aunt cannot change the will. Your grandmother could have changed it before she died. The only will readings I have ever seen were in movies. The will should have been filed in the circuit clerk's office in the county where she died. If this has been done, you can read it there, or get a copy for a per page fee.The attorney may or may not provide you with a copy, but you certainly can ask.
